Local artists exhibit and competition seeks participants

HIDDENITE, NC (WBTV) - The Hiddenite Center, Incorporated believes that Art has an important role to play in each of our lives and in our community.  Alexander County is blessed with many fine artists and the Hiddenite Center is honored to provide an opportunity for local artists to share their talent with the public.  Each year for the last 31 years, the Hiddenite Center’s Annual Local Artist Competition has highlighted the quality and quantity of talented and creative local artists in our area. The Hiddenite Center is proud to once again recognize artists in Alexander County and is seeking participants in the 2013 Local Artist Exhibit and Competition, which will be featured in the Lucas Mansion Gallery during the month of March.

Jane Lonon awarded Order of the Long Leaf Pine

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - Jane Lonon, long time director of the Ashe County Arts Council, has been awarded the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. The award, one of the highest honors given to a North Carolina citizen, recognizes Jane's long time commitment and service to her community. While serving as the head of the Arts Council Jane has worked tirelessly to promote the arts, education and entertainment of Ashe County.

Hiddenite Center is hosting 'Holiday Festival of Tables', a "One Day Only Holiday Gift Shop", this Saturday at 10:30am. After viewing the many beautifully decorated tables, a traditional holiday meal (complete with dessert and beverage) will be served at 11:30. The cost is $15.

Christmas Made in the South kicks off this weekend

CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) - The 32nd Annual Christmas Made in the South opens this Friday.  Get a jump start on holiday shopping and browse aisle after aisle of treasures at this year's event.  We're focused on keeping the world of fine artisans and craftspeople vibrant...come meet our wide array of vendors exhibiting their amazing art.

Appearing on WBTV at Noon today were Josh and Melissa Alward, a husband and wife team of blacksmiths.  They're the owners of Masons Forge, specializing in custom ornamental and functional ironwork.  View the video posted above and see a sample of their products.  Click here to check out their website!

BETHLEHEM, NC - The Town of Bethlehem is holding its 3rd Annual Bethlehem Day and Classic Car and Truck Show on Saturday, September 29.

There will be live music and entertainment, arts and crafts, children’s activities, and of course, good food and drinks to enjoy at the event.

The event takes place from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. at the Bethlehem Square, which is the Lowes Food and 1st Citizens Bank parking lot.

Follow the Current to Wild in the Water at Charlotte Nature Museum

Charlotte, NC – Dive into fun at Charlotte Nature Museum during this month’s Feature: Wild in the Water on Saturday, August 18, from 10:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Dip your toes into why North Carolina streams, ponds, and lakes are important to our state’s ecology and what you can do to help protect them.

These natural water reserves are home to waves of critters on exhibit at the Museum including the spiny softshell turtle [Apaone spinifera] and the bullfrog [Lithobates catesbeianus] whose tadpoles can take three full years before fully metamorphosing into frogs.

During Wild in the Water, float into cool activities showcasing the wonders of water including the feeding of resident American alligator, Snappy [Alligator mississippiensis] at 11 a.m. and turtle and tortoise feedings at noon.
